PRESSURE TEST

Prior to pressure test, the pits will be backfilled exposing only the joints for inspection. Only sufficient material to prevent pipe movement will be backfilled over the pipe prior to testing. The pipes will be brought to operating temperatures before the pressure test. A pressure test will be carried out as per project specification. Testing will not be carried out against closed valves. The pipe will be charged slowly from the lowest point with air cocks in open position. They will be closed in sequence from the lowest point only when water discharges from them visibly free from air. The fully filled pipe will be left overnight to allow any residue air to settle out. Any water shortage will be made up to fill the void. Then pressure testing can be started by pumping slowly until the pressure reaches the specified limit. At the end of the pressure test, water loss will be calculated as per the project specifications. Also, a visual inspection of the joints will be carried out in presence of the consultant to confirm no leaks are visible. If any part of the irrigation system fails the test, it will be corrected/repaired and a new test will be carried out.

WARNING TAPES

On completion of the pressure test, the pit is backfilled up to the specified level for the installation of the solenoid cable conduits. Before backfilling, warning tapes as per the specification are positioned above the main lines. The warning tapes should be detectable by electromagnetic means using low output generator equipment.

LAYING CONDUIT FOR SOLENOID CABLE

After backfilling up to the required level, conduits for the solenoid cables are placed in the pit. The size of the conduit is determined as per the number of cables that are supposed to pass through them. The conduit pipes are joined together using solvent cement. Where ever there is a change in direction of the cables or at specified distances, pull boxes are provided. Dummy ropes are installed inside the conduits while installation for pulling the solenoid cables at a later stage.

INSTALLATION OF VALVES

Solenoid valves, quick coupling valves and air release valves will be assembled at the store prior to bringing to site. Then the valves are fitted with suitable fittings and connected to the main line using solvent cement. These valves are positioned inside valve boxes which are installed at the specified levels. Isolation valves are connected to the line using flanges. Valve chambers for the isolation valves will be cast in concrete as per the specification.

LAYING OF SOLENOID CABLES

The solenoid cables are pulled through the conduit pipes from pull box to pull box using the dummy ropes placed inside the conduits earlier. Wherever joints are required, the cables are joined using waterproof wire connectors as per specification. The cables will be ferruled for identification during pulling. After pulling the cables, the same will be tested for continuity using the specified instrument. Upon completion of the test, the cables will be connected to the valves and the controller.

IDENTIFICATION OF EXISTING SERVICES

Upon receiving the underground services drawing from the main contractor, a drawing indicating the proposed trial pits for identifying the existing services will be prepared and submitted for approval. Upon receiving the approval, trial pits will be excavated by hand in order to avoid any sort of damage to existing systems. Also, scanning will be carried out to identify and locate underground live or dead power cables.

SETTING  OUT AND MARKING OF MAIN LINE

After identifying all the underground services, the main line will be marked for excavation. Before starting the excavation, permission will be requested to dig from the consultant.

EXCAVATION FOR MAIN LINE

All excavation will be carried out by hand in order to avoid possible damage to any underground services which was not identified during the previous step. The excavated area will be protected with warning tapes. Excavation depth will be as per project specifications. Trenches will be made as narrow as wide enough to provide sufficient room for laying, joining and testing. On completion of the pits, an inspection will be carried out in presence of the consultant, prior to laying of mainline. Dewatering will be provided to remove any surface or groundwater entering the excavations. The trench will not be excavated more than 3 days production rate in front of pipe laying. 

LAYING the MAIN LINE

Pipes for the main line will be procured after the written approval of the consultant. The purchased pipes will be stored properly in our store protecting from sunlight and other damages till ready for laying. Before laying in pits, pipes will be carefully inspected for any damages. Any defective pipes will be marked and removed from the site. A layer of sweet sand as per the project specification will be placed at the bottom of the pit to avoid any damage to the pipes if the existing formation is unsuitable for direct laying. Jointing will be carried out in accordance with manufacturer’s written instruction. Pipes and fittings are cut after they are suitably held, supported and protected. All ends will be cut square to the longitudinal axis of the pipe using a fine-toothed saw. Burrs at cut ends or shavings inside will be removed prior to installation in order to assure a smooth unobstructed flow.  When using rubber ring joints, the approved lubricant will be used to lubricate the spigot and ring prior to insertion. When a pipeline is complete or when construction is delayed, the open ends will be sealed off until the work recommences. Solvent welding will be carried out by experienced fitters who fully understand the technique. Jointing will not be carried out in windy conditions.

IRRIGATION WORK - CHAPTER - 1

MOBILIZATION:

The mobilization works for this project starts as soon as the site is handed over to us. As the soft landscaping works are split over the total project schedule of the Sienna Lakes / Olive Point, the work programme is also arranged accordingly.

NURSERY

A day nursery space (Approximate size 25 m x 25 m) will also be requested in the site along with a drawing and type of construction for the approval of the consultant. This nursery will be used as a holding area prior to planting at the site. The main contractor should also provide a facility for supplying water for irrigating the plants that are kept in the nursery.

INSURANCE

Necessary bonds and insurances will be submitted as soon as the project is awarded to us.

MATERIAL SUBMITTAL

As soon as the contract documents are supplied to us, the submission of materials that are to be used in this project will be handed over to the main contractor in the format that is required by the project. This will include, specifications, catalogues, drawings, parts list if any, compliance statement with the specification, previous approvals and anything that is additionally required by the project.

SHOP DRAWING SUBMITTAL

On receipt of the official contract drawings, we will start preparing the detailed shop drawings which include the detail of the mainlines, sub-mains, laterals and other typical connections. Also, plans for drip-line layout in trees, shrub, hedge and groundcover beds and palms showing interface with planting layout incorporating locations and number of takeoff/riser connections will be provided. In addition to this, the water flow calculation will be submitted for the approval of the consultant.

SETTING OUT DRAWING SUBMITTAL

On the basis of the contract drawings, a setting out drawing will be prepared which will show the proposed location of the main lines along with the coordinates and will be submitted for approval. If any amendments are advised by the consultant, the same will be incorporated and a revised drawing will be submitted for final approval before any job is carried out at the site.
